Server DCs are quite frequent nowadays. What causes this?

Today, when I logged to WoW there was a message in the Log In Menu that said that between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM (I suppose France time) server will go down because of maintenance. I suppose that they have been working on fix the issue that caused several crashes during the last week.

the server has recently been updated (patch 1.8)
it is normal for a server to rather frequently crash after an update as unexpected new issues appear
The crashs will for sure get sorted out over time.
When comparing retail stability with the stability of private servers you should keep in mind that retail had a few hundred servers updated at the same time (+ bigger test servers). Whenever one of their servers crahes the cause is going to be fixed.
Naturally it takes way longer for all server crash sources to occur if there's only one server.

the login screen menu is actual retail data

I was wrong. Tomorrow between 18-00 and 19:00 will be down. I suppose they are going to do some maintenance in order to fix the last crashes.

No dude, you don understand, the login message is from Retail Blizzard in regards to retail servers, it has nothing to do with Nost.

The development/system administrator crew is well aware of every single crash that takes place, the minute they take place, on their servers.. believe me. SNMP ftw.
Keep in mind, there are a lot of people who play on these servers and they are free, without fees, to play on. A lot of things can cause a DoS (Denial of Service), each one being analyzed and addressed as they happen. They're doing the best they can (I'm sure) to rectify and prevent them. Trust that this team does not want what they have built here to fail. Asking them to tell us the cause of each server crash is both unnecessary and a hassle. Giving us insight to this would not prevent or help rectify these issues in the future, only they can do this. If the problems are attributed to anything that could be exploited (potential security risks), this is also not something they would be willingly wanting to share.

In defense of the realm, I remember being refunded/gifted many days of "free" time because of many server crashes until about two years after the game was initially released. I remember threads with hundreds of angry customers venting their rage on the forums. I also remember 45 minute queues..
Nostalrius stability is no where near as bad as retail at 1.12.1, although the lag is certainly a little weirder.
