I recently saw that you can no longer donate on nostalrius and there has been quite a bit of mystery around a grand announcement for the 1 year celebration so i was wondering (speculating :P ) whether they are connected!

One server got shut down from making too much money. I imagine stopping donations helps Nostalrius "fly under the radar" and avoid Blizz's legal lightning bolts. Nostalrius is a non-profit project so I think it's important to avoid making enough money to endanger that status. They probably made enough money to pay the staff for a bit and are turning off the tap for now

No one on the staff has been paid and will never be paid.

We did indeed turn off the donations and will have more info on why at a later date.
