A fresh pvp server is never to be considered though?

If the multiple servers feature isn't released before aq then the server will actually be fucked.

There will be 12-15k people on with 10s delay and crashes every 5mins.

This vaunted clustering system had better be as orgasmic as they've hyped it up to be, and it'd better be released before 1.9, otherwise we're most certainly fucked.

The server is almost already unplayable as it is because of the constant gankings which are the result of massive overpopulation. If you want a REAL vanilla experience you have to play on the PvE realm sadly.

The only normal solution is a second PvP server.

sounds like you can't handle the pvp, should take your own advise and roll the pve server ;)

Actually, due to the overpopulation the server IS unplayable. The game is meant to be played on a server with a cap of 5k. The whole game is designed around that, i.e. the spawn rates of mob and harvestables are tuned to 5k gamers at the most. Even during WoW's golden age most servers had a population below that cap.

This means that it's needlessly hard (if not almost impossible) to level harvesting professions except for skinning and therefore very hard to level the corresponding crafting professions as well. Just look at the starter areas where the first quest to kills a couple of low level critters, which should be doable in under 5 minutes, often takes 15 minutes or more due to there not being any critters to kill with a surge of new toons. And yes, in contested areas it also leads to more ganking than usual for the simple fact that people get bored waiting for their quest mob to spawn.

Even if Nostalrius had the hardware to accommodate so many gamers, which they don't as is obvious from the heavy lag especially during weekends, it would mean constant tweaking of the spawn rates and probably many more things to keep the game playable. And they simply don't have the manpower.

The intended maximum is 2.5k, actually. Nostrils has taken numerous steps to compensate for this, such as implementing dynamic respawn rates on mobs and resources, but the PVP server is just getting retarded due to the lag and how many damn people are on it, which is an issue even if the lag is fixed.

According to this guy the server cap varies:

-----------------------------------------------------------
I've worked as Mmo journalist and analyst for a few years but i'm not active anymore, so whatever i'm gonna say is outdated by at least 2 years. Probably new games have different limits due to more powerful servers.

For what i know, the smallest WoW server had a cap of 4000 players while the biggest were around 7000-8000. I don't know if they are bigger now.

The biggest server ever was Eve's online server, that used a distributed approach and could afford a peak of 50k concurrent users. Probably they beat that record recently.

(Quoted from: gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/44414/how-many-concurrent-players-does-a-typical-wow-server-have#)

Gawd, look at that server max for Eve Online!

This is most definitely not true for Vanilla. No idea about other expansions.
