Blizz is deleting all Nostalrius related forum threads, but for the record here is my letter to Blizz, before they delete it.

Everyone else should write them and especially Tweet them. Blizz loves reading Tweets.

Dear Blizzard,

By shutting down Nostalrius private vanilla server you are alienating your player base.

By not offering legacy servers you are ignoring the demand of your consumers.

I have been playing your game for 9 years, and my money and that of people like me has put your kids through college. And now you are going to nickel and dime me over your paranoia that you might be losing out on a few pennies -- which you aren't?

Private servers give me what your company refuses to give me -- the vanilla experience I missed out on and a wonderful community. Stop trying to sell me garrisons, ship yards, Overwatch and the myriad of other filler content I DON'T WANT TO PLAY.

Vanilla was a gem. It was your original, ground-breaking success. You need to understand that those of us who love Nostalrius love your game. We are CELEBRATING your creation, not trying to screw you out of a few dollars.

You are being completely tone-deaf to the wants and feelings of your lifetime customers. Why would you alienate a lovemark demographic that has potentially played for over a decade? It just doesn't make smart business sense.

Ultimately you are damaging your own Brand. Do not allow poor governance to cause your company to continue to lose value.

At 2013 Blizzcon you thanked us for allowing you to be our Game Masters for all these years. Can you please understand those of us playing vanilla on private servers are doing it out of love for your creation?

Not that I'm sure it would matter all that much. But if you do decide to unsub from retail which I did upon hearing of this. Be sure to choose the appropriate options which allow you to specify a reason you are canceling your subscription and stating very clearly why. Though I am cancelling my account as I have no lack of desire to play the current content in the game, I kept it active, because for some reason "I thought it was the right thing to do". I was very clear that I was cancelling because of the shut down of Nostalrius and the lack of support for legacy expansions, specifically Vanilla and The Burning Crusade. If they one day decide to release a few servers exclusive to those expansions I would consider re-subbing. I didn't play on Nost because it was free, I played because it was the game and the experience I wanted to play.
