One of the best things we can do as a community to accelerate any response from Blizzard, whether its a statement or even legacy servers, is to clarify the numbers (+source). Whether you believe legacy servers are possible or not, reducing ignorance or misinformation is key to all of us no matter where we end up after April 10th.
The infographic, showing 15k peak/150k active/800k accounts is a good start, but many questions and misinformation is going around, such as:
1/15k peak on doing /who. Does this include both servers? or just one faction on one of the two servers (pvp/pve). If latter, this means 40k peak, but it should be clarified.
2/WoW's last reported sub numbers are 5.5mill (Source?), but many saying its closer to 2.5-3.5mill now. Is this global? US only? some sources say it is as low as 2.5mill global, many of that being EU/china, and if let's say the total 'active'population of WoW is closer to 700-800k as a result, it makes 150k active seem insane.
3/ certain definitions need to be clarified. "Active player" IIRC is played in the last 10 days. and because of the nature of the server. Also, 'peak' on nost was much different than retail, as people from all around were playing, the average time was closer to the peak.
4/Dates are unclear. it baffles me the disproportion of people posting on blizzard facebook/twitter/reddit etc who 'started last week with some friends'. If the numbers are from 2015, they could be significantly higher at the time of server shutdown.
I am reaching out to people with more time available than me to help out on a research project. Call it a 'literacy review' to put the infographic numbers in perspective. Especially other students (after exam time) in stats/research specialties with a passion to contribute to event which will be part of gaming history.
REMEMBER: COMPANIES WILL ONLY LOOK AT NUMBERS WITH PROPER STATISTICAL ANALYSIS AT THE END OF THE DAY
