Invitation to participate in my PhD survey on private server

by geoffresearching » Tue Jul 09, 2024 3:08 pm

Hey there, My name is Geoff and I’m researching Wow private servers for my PhD. I’d appreciate your help and you can spare a few minutes if you have worked on a private server before.

Invitation to participate; The practices of massively multiplayer online game private servers.

As long as there have been World of Warcraft (WoW) servers, there have been WoW private servers. But the history and practices of this space are broadly undocumented. What does exist is hidden in forums, Reddit threads, discords, and the memories of players and developers across two decades. Importantly as more and more games become games as a service, with similar online constraints to MMO’s, we believe this history and practices can contribute to the preservation of games going offline. To this end, we are undertaking research as part of a PhD thesis project to uncover some of the hidden history and practices. And we need your help.

This research seeks to survey people with experience to understand the practices of the private server space for publication in academic research outcomes.

As a participant in the World of Warcraft private server community, we would like to invite you to participate in a short survey on your experiences with private servers.

Participation is anonymous and can be undertaken without personal identification.

This survey is expected to take approximately 5 to 10 minutes of your time, at your convenience.

To participate please follow this link.
